Black and white photograph of the Long Island Oyster Industry, 1932. Bringing a dredge full of oysters over teh roller on a LI oyster boat. The dredge pictured here holds about 15 bushels. These boats are part of the oyster farming equipment that harvests the crop from the pure government certified waters of Long Island. Oyster beds run from 20 to 100 acres or more, and a oyster farm may cover thousands of acres. |
