Description |
Black and white photograph of a LI oyster boat harvesting cultivated oysters from the clean, cool depths of Gardiner's Bay, Long Island. The mesh-like bag on the side of the boat contains from 15 to 20 bushels of oysters. The oysters are thrown over the screen to separate the choice market size from the small ones. The latter are thrown back into the beds to permit them to grow larger. The older the oyster is, the more tender. |
